FAQ
No. Every journey is designed from a blank page. Sample journeys exist as reference documents and we will send them on request during an early conversation - but they live in our client library, not on this site, because they are written for specific people.
It depends on duration, destination, party size and the form your journey takes - a short clinical reset, a multi-week multi-country private journey, a small cohort, or a sea or rail crossing sit at very different price points. What we can tell you plainly is how our own fee works. A single booking carries no design fee. A single-country journey carries a design fee of 2.5% of the journey's value; a multi-country journey, up to 5%. The fee is credited in full against any component we book for you at net rates - so on most journeys the design fee is absorbed into the journey itself. Hosted Journeys is priced per seat, all-in. We are happy to talk through real numbers in a first conversation, once we understand what you are seeking.
Inside six weeks is case-by-case - some of the best properties on our list have waiting lists, and we will not compromise the journey to hit a date. Inaugural sailings and private charters carry longer lead times; we will tell you what is realistic.
Yes, and often someone does. A partner, a personal assistant or a family office makes the first approach on many of our journeys, and we work with whoever holds the details - passports, schedules, the small preferences that shape a trip. The one thing we ask is a conversation, at some point, with the person actually travelling: the journey is designed around you, not around the person arranging it.
Gladly - and it is one of the things we do best. A journey shaped for one person can be the most precise of all, built entirely around your rhythm with nobody else's preferences to balance. For solo travellers who want company without a tour, our Hosted Journeys are particularly good: a small, considered cohort where you travel alongside like-minded people but are never managed as a group. Many of our solo guests move between the two: a private reset one season, a Hosted Journey the next.
Yes, within the same private-design logic. Hosted Journeys are kept deliberately small - the size the setting holds well, whether that is eight in a private house or twenty aboard a chartered yacht - because above a certain number a cohort becomes a conference. Journeys in Motion yacht charters and private rail carriages can accommodate larger family groups when the vessel or carriage allows.
Gladly. Many of our private journeys integrate a client's existing practitioner - their longevity physician, coach, therapist or teacher - into the itinerary at Lanserhof, Ananda or wherever the journey lands. We coordinate, they practice.
Everywhere but one place. We design journeys worldwide - from the Norwegian fjords to the Spice Islands, the Alps to the Atacama - from our base in Bangkok, registered in Hong Kong. The single exception is Hong Kong itself: we do not arrange inbound travel into Hong Kong, or travel for clients ordinarily resident there, for regulatory reasons set out in full at Q14.
We design the flight itinerary alongside the journey - arrival light, jet-lag windows, lounges, chauffeur. The booking is placed through our partner agency's flight desk in your name, so you are the airline's contracting party. Some clients prefer to book their own flights or use existing miles; we will design the journey around either route.
A new generation of moving sanctuaries. Private yachts and private rail - vessels and carriages where the property itself is in motion.
Some of these journeys travel aboard the new wellness fleets now coming to sea - inaugural sailings we follow closely and book early. Others are chartered privately: a crewed boat through an archipelago, a private rail carriage on a slow route south. The brand matters less than the fit - we choose the vessel the way we choose a property, for what the journey requires.
Journeys in Motion journeys are designed the same way as our private land journeys - listen, draft, refine, hold - and held under the same standard of care. Suitable for clients who want the privacy of a single, held space combined with the variety of a moving one - and for couples and families drawn to long ocean crossings, off-season Mediterranean, the Norwegian fjords, the South Pacific, or the Pullman-car romance of a rail journey across Europe.
A single 24/7 number. Every itinerary includes emergency numbers for the destination, the nearest consulate for your nationality, and in most destinations, pre-introduced local contacts. We recommend - and in some cases require - that clients carry evacuation cover through Global Rescue or Ripcord for adventure and remote itineraries.
A Liminal journey is confirmed in two stages. The first is the design. When you accept our proposal, we invoice fifty per cent of the design fee to begin the work and the remaining fifty per cent on sign-off of the final brief. From sign-off, the design fee is non-refundable - the design work is by then complete. The travel itself sits separately and depends on which of our two arrangements applies. Under the Advisory arrangement - used for the great majority of our hotel, ground operator and standard flight bookings - hotels, ground operators and the flight desk invoice you directly under their own terms. We coordinate every booking and the timing of payments on your behalf, but you are the contracting party for the underlying trip. Cancellations and changes follow each supplier's policy. Under the Transactional arrangement - used for selected components, primarily yacht and rail charters and certain expedition vessels - Liminal books on your behalf at net rates and charges a transparent design margin disclosed in writing before you confirm. For those components, our own cancellation terms apply and are set out in the booking confirmation. In every case we strongly recommend a comprehensive trip-cancellation and evacuation policy - Battleface, Allianz Premier and World Nomads Explorer Plus are all suitable - and we will help you select cover at the time of booking.
Medical and dietary information is collected only where required for the journey, and passed only to the specific clinic, practitioner or property that needs it - not held or processed by Liminal beyond that purpose. On request, we can explain in detail the standards we apply: secure intake forms, encrypted transmission, data minimisation, and handling under Hong Kong PDPO (with UK and EU GDPR standards where applicable). We do not market to our clients, we do not sell lists, and we use no analytics beyond basic site statistics.
Liminal Journeys Limited is a Hong Kong private company. We are a travel design studio: we design and coordinate journeys outside Hong Kong, primarily for clients living outside Hong Kong.
Specifically, Liminal does not arrange inbound travel into Hong Kong, does not arrange outbound travel for clients ordinarily resident in Hong Kong, and does not accept bookings from clients ordinarily resident in Hong Kong. This positioning sits within the scope rules of the Hong Kong Travel Industry Ordinance (Cap. 634) and is the basis on which we operate as a design studio rather than a licensed travel agent.
Our clients are global; those we serve most often live in the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Germany, Singapore, the United States, and across the Gulf.

Plainly, and in a way you can check.
First, the design fee - and it is smaller than you might expect. Nothing on a single booking. 2.5% of the journey's value on a single-country journey. Up to 5% on a multi-country journey. Credited in full against any component we book for you at net rates. Hosted Journeys is priced per seat, all-in.
Second, the bookings themselves. Where suppliers invoice you directly under their own terms, some pay us a standard commission out of the rate quoted to you; it does not increase your price. Where we book on your behalf at net rates - hotels on net terms, chartered yachts, private rail, expedition vessels - we quote an all-in price and act as your disclosed agent: the supplier is named in your booking confirmation and remains the party performing the service.
The structure is deliberate. It keeps our advice clean - we recommend what is right for your journey, not what pays us more - and it reflects what Hong Kong law requires of a studio of our kind.
The unglamorous part, and the part that matters. Every supplier is contracted in writing. Where we book as your disclosed agent, the supplier and its terms are named in your booking confirmation; where you contract directly, you do so on the supplier's own terms, with us coordinating every step. Flights are ticketed in your name, so you are the airline's contracting party. And we require - and help you select - comprehensive trip-cancellation and evacuation cover before you travel. None of this appears in the photographs. All of it is why the journey holds.
The journey does not end at the airport. We ask how it landed - honestly - because that is how the next one gets better, and we carry home whatever should travel with you: a practitioner's protocol, a clinic's follow-up plan, the name of the guide you want again. Your preferences and history stay on file, so when you return we already know your pace, your practitioners and what worked - the design deepens each time rather than starting over. Many of our clients travel with us more than once; the journeys that follow are quietly easier than the first.
